meet Jelly

Earlier in the week both kids climbed up on the couch and tried to lay on each side of me to take a nap.  I told them that I felt squished like a sandwich, and they were the bread.  So Brandon told me that I was the peanut butter, and the baby was the jelly.  :D  So since then, he's been calling the baby Jelly and even has Talya trying to say "the baby is jelly!".

Hmmm, Jelly is a gender neutral name, right?

the triplets

The kids are playing midwife.  With B's assistance, N just gave birth to a baby girl, a black cat and a green monkey.  Which is all totally normal for my kids.

geeking out with the new vacuum

After sitting in its box in the foyer for, ummm, way too long, I finally put the new vacuum together today. First I vacuumed the living room twice with my Dirt Devil, then I did a quick vacuum with the Dyson. Geek and half-assed housewife can make for an interesting combination. (No pictures from before the first vacuuming, only a select few see the house in its natural state.)

Shiny, new Dyson:

All the crap left behind by the Dirt Devil. Bleh. (I love my cats, I love my cats.)

The crumbs, remnants of the kids' snack from yesterday, left around the edges of the couch. Yes, I realize that vacuums have the edge attachment but I'm not the type to use it every time. Is anyone really surprised by that?

The Dyson does get a little closer to the edge of the furniture.

And no, I don't switch the settings down to "bare floor" just to go over the hearth. To paraphrase Flylady - if it's worth doing, it's worth doing wrong. (Even a half-assed effort is better than none.)

The Dyson did get more of the ashes and stuff that randomly collect there.

Bottom line - Yep, I like my Dyson, even though my bank account is $400 poorer for it. So the Dirt Devil will be Freecycled this weekend.

insomnia strikes again

Well, the lovely combo of insomnia and nausea. Wake up a little after 2 to pee. I'm 7 months pregnant, so that's no big surprise. Got a migraine, well that's no surprise either. (I think my neuro should just read my blog and automatically schedule appointments for me since I'm phone phobic.)

Check my email and surf until around 3. Ugh, nausea is kicking my ass. Heat up my rice sock and lay back down, trying to sleep. Um, no, that's not going to work. What's worse, the nausea or the knowledge that it's not going to get better until I throw up? Gods, I hate throwing up. Go and sit in the kids' bathroom, wait to throw up. Bleh. Shouldn't have drank the orange juice. But feel a bit better now.

So heat the rice sock up again, and go lay back down. Listen to 2 Hypnobabies tracks, usually my sure-fire cure for insomnia. Nope, still awake. Damn. Now it's 4:30. Toss and turn some more. Screw it, it's 5 am, I give up. I'm up. Go downstairs and start some laundry. I'd give my left arm for a Coke right now, tea's just not cutting it.

I know in another hour or so I'm going to fall back asleep, just in time for the kids to wake up. They always wake up early when I do, I'm assuming that connection will fade with age. Going to be a long day.

motivation follows action

At least, that's what I've heard some people say. I guess it's true to an extent. My living room no longer looks like a toy box exploded and my dishes are done. It's a start. Now I just need to get into my workroom tonight and get some dyeing done. It's been way too long since I've stocked anything, by the time the kids are in bed I'm ready to crash too.

But hey, I've got some nice henna tattoos on my boobs and belly! No pics of those yet, LOL. Not sure that's something I want to post on the blog, but the again I think everyone I know locally has seen my breasts anyway, thanks to my nurslings.
